Triple Helix or Quadruple Helix: Which Model of Innovation to Choose for Empirical Studies?

چکیده

Abstract While the Triple Helix and Quadruple models are popular in innovation studies, relations between them have not been addressed extensively literature. There diverse interpretations of helix empirical studies that apply them, but these sometimes deviate from original theses models. Such a situation can confuse newcomers to field terms which model their research. We discern cause this research challenge is lack systematic comparison two To bridge gap, paper compares perspectives how they were introduced discussed literature improved useful addressing processes contemporary society. Our major findings as follows: First, reviewing extant applying for identifying gaps, we discover influenced by three views on located continuum extreme ends—namely, isolation versus integration Second, provide both advantages weaknesses models, may help researchers choose suitable conceptual/analytical tools studies. Third, our shows largely supplementary each other when analysing society, providing ground potential synergy building

Organizing product innovation: hierarchy, market or triple-helix networks?

This paper assesses the extent to which the organization of the innovation effort in firms, as well as the geographical scale at which this effort is pursued, affects the capacity to benefit from product innovations. Three alternative modes of organization are studied: hierarchy, market and triple-helix-type networks. Furthermore, we consider triple-helix networks at three geographical scales: ...

The triple helix perspective of innovation systems

Alongside the neo-institutional model of networked relations among universities, industries, and governments, the Triple Helix can be provided with a neo-evolutionary interpretation as three selection environments operating upon one another: markets, organizations, and technological opportunities. How are technological innovation systems different from national ones? The three selection environ...

The co-evolvement in local development - From the triple to the quadruple helix model

The Nordic welfare states embrace the idea of co-evolution. This phenomenon is less obvious due to the strong role of the state, but yet it is visible in the adoption of technological development and in the efforts that entwine the technological innovations to work environments, social services and everyday life. It is even more conspicuous, when the participatory approach to technology is appl...

Triple Helix indicators of knowledge-based innovation systems

When two selection environments operate upon each other, mutual shaping in a coevolution along a particular trajectory is one possible outcome. When three selection environments are involved, more complex dynamics can be expected as a result of interactions involving bi-lateral and tri-lateral relations. Three selection environments are specified in the Triple Helix model: (1) wealth generation...
